Amanera is the only Aman resort in the Caribbean, set above one of the Dominican Republic's least-trafficked coastlines, on a bluff overlooking Playa Grande. The site itself was the brief: weather, geology, distance from major suppliers, and the resort's own quiet ethos all shaped what could be built.
Amanera es el único resort Aman en el Caribe, ubicado sobre uno de los litorales menos transitados de la República Dominicana, en un acantilado con vista a Playa Grande. El propio terreno fue el brief: el clima, la geología, la distancia hasta los suministradores principales y la ética serena del resort definieron lo que podía construirse.
Working alongside London-based architect John Heah — whose hand has shaped Aman properties from Bali to the Bahamas — ACCOM delivered the project over 38 months. Tropical hardwoods, board-formed concrete, and panoramic glazing were specified to weather the Atlantic exposure without the resort ever feeling assembled. The builders, the architect, and the operator agreed on one principle: the building should disappear into the landscape, not the other way around.
Junto al arquitecto londinense John Heah — cuya mano ha dado forma a propiedades Aman desde Bali hasta las Bahamas — ACCOM entregó el proyecto en 38 meses. Maderas tropicales, hormigón con cimbra de tabla y vidriería panorámica se especificaron para soportar la exposición atlántica sin que el resort llegara nunca a sentirse ensamblado. Constructores, arquitecto y operador acordaron un principio: el edificio debe desaparecer en el paisaje, no al revés.
For ACCOM, Amanera remains the project against which the firm measures itself — for procurement discipline, for craft, and for what it means to deliver to a brand that does not compromise.
